Thats the theory at the very least, however I finally seem to have a found a solution to my problem. it’s really kinda hard to explain but small changes in an application code can do a lot of difference when running the application, like changing one value from 1 to –1 caused a lit of trouble while checking if the king in chess is check. or checkmate for that matter… anyhow check works fine now and is pos threatened also (seems) to work as it is supposed to do. later on Im gonna add some refreshing programmers art to the game, cause now every piece is more or less just a letter. but that doesnt really matter I’m not supposed to be an gameartist or something, still it’s nice to have it look somewhat nice.

Ill add some pics later today (got the full game on my laptop as Im writting this from my stationary computer. But I’ll have to do some math or I won’t make my exams in about 20 days or so… still I have a lot of programming to study to, cause the theory part of the programing exam is really hard. And I don’t want to fail that one either.

Actaully everything seems to work out just fine. My chess is finally showing some progress again, every piece moves as they’re supposed to (or… well I haven’t implemented the actuall gaming bit yet, but that prob won’t be to hard, and I havent fixed so that you only can take pieces of the opposite colour either or taking turns moving the pieces… ) anyhow I am really happy in the direction this project is taking. Though I havent written that much in my project log yet. Prob will have to do it today or I won’t have written much at all. And my teachers won’t be to happy then I guess…

I ordered a great game, dawn of war 2 on www.webhallen.se and one of the best animes I know of, Princess Mononoke.   

A short introduction to Dawn of war 2 and then to princess mononoke, maybe I’ll put up an review on it in the blog later on.

Warhammer 40.000 Dawn of war 2 take place in the 41st millenia, and super engineered soldiers called Space marines keeps the order in the human empire. The then fight agains different aliens, Orks (or rather space orks) yes they are the well known green skinned fantasy orks =) ), Eldar (= space elves ) and Tyranids the typical horror alien, looks something in between Zergs (starcraft), Arachnids ( Starshiptroopers) and Aliens from the alien movies. My favorite race is Orks ofcourse. To be honest I think Eldar are a bit Over powered for the time being, but when I learn to use the orks better the matches probably will be more even. I participated in the open beta for the game, and I have to say they have fixed every major problem I encountered during the beta, cause it was kinda laggy and slow responses, but now I haven’t seen anything of it at all.

Im still kinda mad at webhallen though… got the wrong chapter (companies) in my Tactical armour package (aka collectors edition), but the one I got are still quite cool.

anyway over and out, back to programming, and later on some dakka dakka (the orcish word for how a rifle shot sounds).

Well in the beginning I wanted to get the hell out of Kungsmarken (where I live as possible), but i have become quite accustomed to it, and I really really like my room the way it is know, therefore Im doubful to move closer to the school…). two more pics of the nice view from my room, and of the really nice weather!

It took some time to get it to work cause I made some really annoying logicerrors. I really only have two things more to get done with. Connect my board, with the graphical part somehow, and make an array to check everytime I click left mousebutton to check if and which piece to move. I am not sure how long it is going to take, but hopefully not to long.

I have worked about 4 hours today, sadly I’m still behind schedule, though that’s not a real problem yet. still got about 1-2month till I am to handle in the project, but I had hoped to get it done quickly so that I can focus on the math, and some other stuff… I really want to get going with my dawn of war 2 fansite. oh… thats right, I bought dawnofwar2.se hopefully I can get something done with it.

Dawn of war 2 is one of the best games I’ve played in a long long time. Anyhow I better start cooking dinner, going to the gym in about 2-3 hours.

I did some major planning for the chess-app, and I think I got a good idea of how things are supposed to work. I had already made some planing, but I throw that away, cause it didn’t seem to work. Right now I have this structure:

Piece (pawn, queen, bishop, knight, king and tower inherit stuff from this one)

Board, the board got an array of pieces (8×8 ) to represent the chessboard, and functions to check if there’s pieces in the way between the point where the piece is standing now and where I want to move it. It will also check for checkmate and check and castling and enpeasant (spell?) but I am yet to find away to archieve this in an effective way. The pieces themselves will handle to check if it is a possible move for that kind of piece (knight moving as an L etc..).

Im gonna have a graphical part, but that part is really just supposed to handle input and drawing the board from an array or thats the idea anyway (I’m working with it right now)

I´ve put down about 7-9hours of work sofar, I’ve come quite a bit on the way, bot not as far as I had hoped to be ( I hoped that I could try out my moving patterns, apparently not today).

I’m starting to wonder if chess is a to large project for me… though probably not, I just need to put a lot (!) of effort into this one. So far I’ve been structuring the classes, and how to fit everything together, and so far it… seems ok. Now I’m just gonna start implementing all algoritms and such… sigh.

I’m gonna do a UML diagrama and put it up on this site later one, not now, cause a the moment I’m way to hungry to do that. Well might be putting it up later today, or when I’ve gotten a bit farther in to the development. Well probably better to completely finish my first task, about the new years eve participant list, and cleaning up the code a bit.

I’m really happy at the moment, after all the problems I had with my computer it seems that one or two faulty RAM’s were behind it! Anyhow I can play the dawn of war 2 MP beta, and its quite fun, there are some things that are annoying so far, It feels like I don’t have complete controll over my units and that I don’t really now the upgrades. Though it’s still a beta, and after playing through the singleplayer scenario all those problems will probably be gone. (As of now I will simply call it n00b-enemy).

Another thing, people actually read my blog… maybe Or I don’t now how many of those that are me from school, anyhow they’re not many but someone probably has read it.

But I think I stand for like 1 or 2 each month, but anyway it’s steadily raising… thought I just should mention it, I don’t really write any of this for anyone else but me, feel free to read though.

The new msn-virus is really annoying (don’t worry I didn’t click on the link and I won’t host it here), It’s hard to believe that so many people will click on a link just like that sen from a contact. I mean I’ve got atleast 12 persons who sends the link to me every now and then, and thats what annoying having to close the msn window everytime they want to log in but instead spreads the virus.

On the otherhand I have to give my compliments to the virus creator since it’s really a great way of getting a lot of bots for a botnet, though it would be better doing it a bit more discreet, right now it’s hard to not understand that you’ve been infected. And due to that loads of people manage to remove it from their computers one way or another. If you instead make it iddle and waiting for a command, and just randomly sends a link to contacts the virus spread would probably more successful and longlived.

Well not exactly but, School is school if I want my exams, I better focus on studying… programming is still more fun than math though. So that’s why I am trying to build an app in wxWidget for a school-task. Any way I struggled quite a bit with getting wxWidgets to work with visual studio 2008, but failed. But after googling for a while I found this amazing application, wxPack and it did the trick, now wxWidgets works perfectly. Only problem is that it’s not supporting the latest version of wxWidget yet, but as far as I’ve read thats on it’s way.

So now I’m trying to get everyting to work in wxWidget, doesn’t seem to hard, feels a bit like coding in swt, or awt in the java programming language. So I have high hopes to get this up and running fairly quick.
